Orange Tahini Sauce

If you like hummus wraps, then I think you are really going to like a wrap made with Orange Tahini Sauce. This sauce is rich and creamy with a bit of tang to it. Take your favorite hummus wrap recipe and swap the hummus for the Orange Tahini Sauce.

You don’t have a favorite hummus wrap recipe? No Worries! Back in 2010, I found one in a newsletter called Supermarket Savvy. Melissa Hendricks, a University of Houston Dietetic Intern at the time, describes how to make it:

First, saute red and green peppers, onions, and mushrooms. Next, evenly spread 3 tablespoons of hummus down the center of the tortilla, add sauteed vegetables and some chopped grilled chicken, and wrap it up.

For people who eat gluten free, this wrap is easy to make using a gluten free corn tortilla or other gluten-free wrap. It’s a whole food, budget-friendly meal with lots of flavor and it is easy to make. 

Tahini is made from ground sesame seeds and is a good source of calcium. Calcium absorption is impaired in people with celiac disease so dietary calcium intake is important! You can read more about calcium, osteoporosis, and celiac disease here.

One cup of cow’s milk contains about 300 milligrams of calcium.

Orange Tahini Sauce

Try this tangy, burst of flavor as a sauce for your next wrap.

Ingredients

Scale

1/2 cup tahini

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 tablespoons water

Zest and juice of 1 medium orange

2 tablespoons honey

1 clove garlic, minced

Instructions

Use a whisk to combine all of the ingredients in a medium-sized bowl. Add salt and pepper and season to taste. Store leftovers in the refrigerator in a tightly sealed container.
